Sometimes one comes across a person/character whose most visible quality is …
(An admirable quality that not many people have. It means that a person may have accomplished a lot, or be a lot but doesn’t feel it is necessary to advertise or brag about it.)
and here I am failing at a humble attempt at translating that sentiment expressed by Farooque Shaikh’s co-starrer Shaban Azmi in the play…”Tumhari Amrita”
instead I end up searching for the meaning of ‘naQsh’…
and find this by Ghalib.
Naqsh faryadi hai kis ki shokhi-e-tehreer ka,
Kaghazi hai pairhan har paikar-e-tasveer kaTranslation:
Against whose playful writings are the words complainants?
Made of paper attire is the countenance of every image
Well, the two key words are ‘naqsh’ and ‘faryadi’. Naqsh means ‘words’/inscriptions and ‘faryadi’ means a plaintiff/complainant.
